All of this occurred however, much to the displeasure of veterans and patriotic organizations as well as legislative bodies, both at the federal and state level. Through the lobbying efforts of several committees and veteran’s groups concerned with protecting the flag, by 1905, 32 states had enacted flag protection laws.
