Rare Winchester 1876 second model .50-95 caliber rifle. SN. 7750. One of the very first .50 express rifles made by Winchester Repeating Arms Co., not just in this model but in their overall production. Shipped in 1879 with 26" octagon brl that has adjustable buckhorn rear sight and blade front sight. Top of brl with usual maker's stamps and stamped "50 - CAL" near breech. Full length magazine tube. Walnut forearm and buttstock. Blued receiver. Thumb print dust cover is engraved "WINCHESTER EXPRESS .50 CAL. 95 GRS". Casehardened hammer lever and buttplate. Accompanied by associated research letter from Cody Firearms Museum. Very good condition as partially restored. Brl retains about 70% thinning plum brown blue. Buttstock and forend are very good with scattered impressions. Frame retains about half of its original blue with some areas of touch up. Casehardened parts are excellent as professionally restored. Bore with well defined rifling and is dark in appearance. Our consignor has done additional research on this rifle with Cody Firearms Museum and the research indicates this as one of the first factory .50-95 caliber rifles made in this model and by Winchester overall. A really handsome big bore rifle! Cisco’s has additional firearms in the Gallery post 1898. Call for itemized catalog.
