Dimensions

Vintage Remington Model No. 4 Cadet Rolling Block Rifle chambered in 22 Short or Long. This rifle features a 28″ round barrel, front and rear factory iron sights, and a Remington UMC curved metal buttplate. This is a takedown rifle, coming apart from the receiver with the flip of a lever. The receiver is color case hardened and the hammer and breech block lever feature knurling. The underside of the barrel is stamped with the words "SAMPLE" and "Carlisle Indian School." There is also the letter D and the number 10.

Overall, the condition of this rifle is good. The metalwork is above 60%, retaining some bluing with areas of wear. The case hardening is still visible on areas of the receiver. The woodwork shows typical wear consistent with age including minor dings and nicks. The bore has well-defined rifling with minor pitting in areas.

The rifle stock is decorated with six silver silver and brass acorns on the buttstock and 1 acorn on the forestock. Possibly an homage to the Boy Scouts of America. It is unknown when these decorations were added.

The Cadet rifle is the least known variant of Remington's No. 4 rifle. Only around 300 were made. While it shares many standard features with the No. 4 sporting rifle, it has a 28 inch barrel, extended wood forend and sling swivels. It was the precursor to the No. 4 Boy Scout, and No. 4 Military rifles marketed to Militray schools and organizations.
