Thunderbird Sun Lodge Lance After pledging and completing a Sun Dance, the owner of this lance could attach beaded circles that pertained to Sun Dance pledging and showed his spiritual commitment to the tribe. The Thunderbird was the greatest of the “Thunder Beings” and its effigy is seen portrayed on the lance drop. This effigy of the Thunderbird is an exact duplicate of the Thunderbird effigy carried by Crazy Horse in his personal medicine bag that he would take with him into battle. Only the most honored lodge members could display Thunderbird effigies on their lances and regalia. The horse hooves beaded on the drop indicate the thundering sound of horses while the World Wind Dragonfly effigy represents illusion and the power to confuse the enemy.
