Sioux pipe with horse head effigy, catlinite bowl and wood stem from the ex-collections of Erich Erdoes, Buffalo Tracks and Skinner Auctions. Elbow pipe with horse head effigy pattern from catlinite pipestone. The
horses mane shows on the pipe as a wide blade like ridge with
serrated back and is painted "Souix" in white paint from an old
collector / musuem, with a later museum number next to it. The pipe has deep red to speckled pink coloring with a well smoked, nicely
patina'd bowl. The stem is carved wood and appears to be an old,
original 19th-century example. Pipe overall
measures 18.75"L, bowl 2.5" by 2.75". The piece comes with a custom metal museum style display stand.
