Dimensions

Sioux made quilled hide buffalo bladder bag. The bag is accompanied with a collector note placing the piece at circa 1910 and being collected February 1, 2021. The bag exhibits a large Buffalo / Bison bladder with Indian tanend buffalo hide with small fringes and coverd with a thick parfleche rawhide band that is sinew sewn and exhibits wonderful porcupine quill quillwork. The quillwork is done on the thin parfleche rawhide strips and has a nice spotted or box geometric design in red, purple and yellow. The top of the bat has Indian tanned buffalo hide with a hide tie. The piece was noted as being early 1900 to mid 1900's by Allards back in 2017. Various North American Plains tribes inflated and dried bladder bags for use as containers often to store water with this example being a larger storage container. There are a few worn sections of the bladder but overall the piece is well kept.
