"Man with Bear Mask Holding Copper" by Squamish/Coast Salish carver Van Joseph (1964 - ). Van Joseph is a Squamish/Coast Salish artist from Surrey, British Columbia, who is known for his masks and carvings. This figure depicts a Man wearing a Bear Mask and holding a Copper with a formline eye on the front. The Bear Mask and the Man both have shell inlays on their eyes. Under the base there’s a notation with that reads “Man with Bear Mask Holding Copper,” and is signed and dated 1984. There is also a sticker for the now defunct Northwest Coast Ethnic Art gallery that was in the Olympic Hotel in Seattle. Please note: Although a clean break, the mask of this figure appears to be missing its front half. 15" H x 3.75" W x 2.875" D
