Ronald Apangalook (1968- ) walrus ivory carving of a three dimensional line of polar bears on fossilized ivory base. Signed Qay. Ronald (Eskimo name Qaygeghutkaq, shortened to Qay - literal translation “put on top”) was born in 1968, a Siberian Yupik from the Village of Gambell located on St. Lawrence Island. He began developing his artist talent for carving in 1991 while attending college in Anchorage. Today he is recognized for his superbly carved figurines and exceptional sculptures depicting otters, bears, cormorants, puffins, hunters and walruses. 32" x 7"
