Plateau beaded flat bag. The bag consists of thick trade canvas covered on the front with a fantastic whimsical and effigy / fetish beaded design in period glass trade seed beads having a calico trade clothing lining and dark red / maroon trade fabric edge and back. The top has an Indian tanned hide top strap. Likely from the Flathead or Nez Perce tribes the piece was collected in Montana by Laton Alton Huffman (1854-1931). L.A. Huffman was a noted photographer in Montana. His collection was acquired by noted Montana collector John Fox. This piece is from the John Fox, Missoula, Montana collection. The beadwork shows a bird effigy above a whimsical flowing green leaf and floral design done in greasy yellow, black, semi-transparent orange hear, cobalt, greasy green, butterscotch, and semi-transparent red heart with a rare greasy white background. Well kept with little to no bead loss.
