Pair of Colt Model 1849 pocket percussion revolvers with ivory grips, case and accessories. Serial #58607, 31 cal, 4" octagon barrel, blue/casehardened/silver finish, ivory grips. Bore is dark and oxidation with distinct rifling. Both of these revolvers were manufactured in 1853 and feature elaborate factory scroll engraving in differing styles. Colt hired several German immigrant engravers in the 1850s, and Gustave Young shortly thereafter became the primary engraving contractor. The revolvers also feature the "Saml Colt" presentation style inscription on the barrels in place of the usual barrel address as well as "COLT'S/PATENT" hand inscribed on the frames in place of the standard stamped marking. The visible serial numbers match on both revolvers. They come with a modern double case, cap tins, a .36 caliber bullet mold, an eagle pattern pocket flask, key, and lead balls. Fine overall condition with nearly all of the original silver remaining on the grip straps, traces of original blue, silver-gray patina on the balance, crisp engraving and markings, minor pitting, and attractively aged patina on the grip. Mechanically functions. The case is very good with minor storage wear. The accessories are good with mild wear, including some dents on the flask.
