Pacheedaht/nuu-chah-nulth totem by samuel jackson

Item Number: A0722

Intricate Pacheedaht/Nuu-chah-nulth totem pole carved by Samuel Jackson. This astonishing pole features ten fully carved figures in just 13 inches of wood. The figures are raven, human, (2) small bears, a frog, a large bear, an inverted human, another frog, another human face, and a humanoid bear face. There is an old sticker on the back that identifies the carver as Sam Jackson and the origin of the pole as Port Renfrew, which is the home of the Pacheedaht First Nation of the Nuu-chah-nulth-speaking peoples. The arabesque lacing of the figures on this pole is unusual for Nuu-chah-nulth poles and may indicate that it is a Nuu-chah-nulth interpretation of a more northern piece, perhaps Tsimshian or Haida. 13"H

PERIOD: Mid 20th Century

ORIGIN: Northwest - Nuu-chah-Nulth, Native American
