This model pole is carved in yellow cedar and depicts a truncated version of the Tlingit Chief Shakes Totem from Wrangell, Alaska. It was created by a member of the Nuu-chah-nulth Amos family of carvers who worked for Ye Olde Curiosity Shop in the mid-20th century. Although the Amos family were known for elaborate painting work on their poles, this really takes it to the next level. The pole and the base are covered in images of sea monsters, fish, whales, and human faces – even on the bottom of the base! The colorful line drawings on this pole recall the figural basketry patterns on Nuu-chah-nulth and Makah baskets from the same time period. In excellent condition with bright paint and wood throughout. 12"
