Nuu-chah-Nulth basketry covered bottle. Circa 1980. This bottle is a finely made and complex example of Nuu-chah-nulth fibre art. The bottle is woven in natural and dyed bear grass and features a menagerie of images that includes Thunderbirds, Canoes with Passengers, Whales, Sturgeon, and Terns. The dyed grass colors of green, orange, pink, yellow, blue, burgundy, and black. Dyed beargrass is often truant and fades easily, so the condition of this bottle and its bright imagery are especially notable. This bottle also comes with the woven cap, another remarkable testament to the care that this basketry has received. 12"
