Northwest Coast style multifigure totem pole. This is a model of the Haida Raven Pole of Jasper Park, Alberta, that dates to the 1930s. The original pole was carved in the 1870s by Simeon Sdiihldaa, a master carver of Massett, Haida Gwaii. The original pole was transferred to Jasper Park in 1915 to commemorate the opening of the Grand Trunk Railroad, which traversed the mountains from Alberta to Prince Rupert, BC. In 2009, the original pole was repatriated to the Haida Nation in Massett. Certain features on this pole, such as the type of wood and the painting style, point to it possibly being made in Japan. However, it does have a period-correct paper label that reads “The Raven Pole/of Jasper Park/Standing at the Railway Statio[n].” An early and interesting model pole. 12"H
