North Dakota 39 star statehood flag with wave configuration. Was the unofficial North Dakota Flag as South Dakota was also admitted as the 40th state on the same day this flag became immediately obsolete. During this time new flags were commissioned to keep up with each new state. New flags only came out every July 4th and three other states were admitted the same year as North Dakota so there was no official American flag in 1889 made with 39 stars. This flag was likely a display flag used in political rallies and parades during the time in celebration. Some flag manufactures believed the Dakota territory would be admitted to the Union as one state and without companions. 23 1/2" x 17 1/2"
