Nils Gustav Hanson Hanson was from Switzerland and the original patent dates from 1885. The U.S. Patent was issued in 1895 at the end of production. This cane gun was made in Switzerland and is serial # 659 with all matching parts including the steel skeleton butt stock. This Hanson Patent cane gun is most likely the best and highest quality cane gun to have ever been produced in the antique era. The 28 gauge chamber. The bore is in good condition. The steel barrel measures 28 13/16 inches from the muzzle to bolt face. Ebony pear shaped pistol grip. The original bead at the muzzle also remains intact. The bolt action is smooth and locks up tight. The barrel would have had a rattan wrapping at one time. The strap attached to the cocking mechanism would have been leather. 34 1/2" with plug, 47 1/2" with plug and stock.
This antique cane gun is mechanically functional but should not be fired due to its age and potential risks. Like many from its era, it lacks caliber markings, so any caliber reference is speculative.
