Lakota Sioux bow, quiver of arrows, and pipe bag - an original historic set. Although they came separately the dyes in the quiver and bow exactly match the pipe bag. There is a high probability they came from the same warrior. These were owned by "Red Rode Good," Lakota warrior form the Lower Sioux Agency. This was an early Lakota reservation along the Minnesota in south central Minnesota. During the Sioux uprising, Red Rode Good was shot and killed by one of the Bauers of New Ulm. New Ulm was under attack and just downstream from the Agency. The bow is a typical Sioux short bow with buffalo sinew backing to give it added strength - around 50 lbs. Bow has the original gut string and is dyed native green. The quiver is made from buffalo hide with a set of war and hunting arrows of willow. Buffalo sinew was used to attach the feathers and trade tips. There are two types of arrows in the quiver, which are color-coded on the feathered ends. The war arrows have a winged or Christmas tree shape to them. These are wings to prevent the arrow being pulled out. One has to cut these arrows out or push them through. This bow, quiver and arrows is noted in Jim Hamm's Encyclopedia of Native American Bows, Arrows, and Quivers, page 134 and 135.
