By James E. Stuart (1952-1941), Oil on canvas; 12"x18"; catalog #1333, October 4, 1906. Pupil of Virgil Williams, R.B. Ellen, Hill & Keith; became a minor member of the important Bohemian Club. First trip to the Northwest was in 1876. In 1886, he painted California adobe missions before visiting Yosemite and Yellowstone. Stuart had studios in NYC, Chicago, Portland, San Francisco. He had a habit of writing on the back of each painting; he is known to produce over 5000 paintings from Alaska to the Panama Canal, from California to Maine. Ex D.R. Evick, Stockton, CA
