Lakota Sioux Native American Indian presentation horse figural catlinite pipe bowl. The piece shows a nice large size horse head effigy presentation pipe dating to Indian War era circa 1870. The piece has a square profile with ridged rectangular paddle back, horse head profile bowl with curving beveled front which tapers to a rolling round curved front. The piece has a dark rich red to pink speckled coloring with nice original patina and bears an old oval red and cream museum collection tag which reads, "Sioux S. Dak." hand written with an old fountain pen. Figural Horse catlinite pipe bowls are well documented as being an iconic Sioux 19th Century pattern with this being a fantastic example in well preserved condition showing no major damages.
