Northwest Coast carved wolf mask. Carved and polychrome painted by a 4th generation master carver Jimmy Joseph, Kwakiutl.

Master Carver Jimmy Joseph is Kwakwa̱ka̱ʼwakw from Alert Bay. He is a
fourth generation carver and has been carving professionally for over 50 years. He lives a traditional lifestyle - hunting, fishing, and attending potlatches. He's also an active member of the Native American Church. Jimmy is a residential school survivor.

Using traditional designs, materials, techniques, and tools, Jimmy is well known for his intricate artworks. He draws the designs freehand, then carves and paints them. Each piece is unique. His artwork is easily recognized because of his distinct style characterized by deep carving, and liberal use of dashing and abalone inlays. He also doesn't like to leave any surface uncarved. The bottoms of his boxes are carved, the handles of his rattles are totem poles. 16" x 60"
