Dimensions

India Pattern Brown Bess style smoothbore musket with 0.75 inch bore and 37 3/8 inch barrel. The gun features walnut stocks and brass furniture. The lock and gooseneck style cock are steel. The lock is marked but illegible. The barrel is stamped with a crown over a G and a crown over a V. There are three H.B.C. stamps found on the musket including the buttplate, the left side lockplate and on the forend of the stock. It is unknown whether these are original to the musket or later additions. The buttstock is stamped with an "S" and a "T".

The musket is in good condition overall, however, the flintlock mechanism does not hold in the full cocked position indicating internal wear or damage. The barrel has aquired a mottled brown patina. The walnut stocks are solid and free of major breaks or cracks but show signs of period use. The various screws have been manipulated but appear mostly original. The brass forend cap is missing. The ramrod may be a period replacement. The buttplate is held on with two iron nails instead of screws. The bore has light ptting throughout.

The musket comes with a Native-style scabbard of animal hide and red stroud. The scabbard features a seed beaded cross design with beaded fringe. The scabbard appears to be more cotemporary but timeframe is unknown.

Manufactured circa 1804-1809.
