(1849-1924) Oil on canvas; 19" x 14". Period frame. Alexander was an American artist, both in paint and wood carving, mostly of sporting and still life subjects. He studied for a short time under the sculptor William Copley, and was one of America's popular gaming artists and was primarily self taught. His works are on display in many important collections, including the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the Buffalo Bill Historical Center, the Farnsworth Art Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Museum of Wildlife Art, the San Diego Museum of Art, the Brooklyn Museum, and the White House.
