Extra tall white beaver felt top hat. Marked "RF, Dearborn MI….only partly legible" With Hudson Bay marked trade silver adornment, Montreal mark, hallmarked R.C. for Robert Cruickshank (1759-1809) silversmith of London, Monreal, and heart and diamond design. Ex Courtney Smith collection. Hat is 19th century and silver, a mid 20th Century replica.
The hat is beaver, felt and 19th Century. However, we could not find a hattery in Dearborn, Michigan beginning with NAD. The German silver cutout is attractive but we do not feel first half 19th Century as it should be, although the cutouts and stamp are correct for the period.
