The basic rectangular form has been ovalized by grinding. A crude incised line defines the border on either side indicating dual sided utilization. The material is schist and both mixing surfaces are flat. No attempt to raise or decorate the borders was made. Palettes of this type first appeared in the Snaketown Phase, evolving from sandstone and crystalline rock, and continued through the end of the Sacaton Phase. This palette, with lack of definition, detail or care in manufacture, represents the degenerative type produced late in the period. By the following Classic Period palettes had largely passed from the culture complex.
