Blue wing teal decoy by Harry Shewman of Gasport, Ontario. Repaint. The records of the Shewman family duck hunting and commercially fishing the Wellers Bay area since the early 1800s. In the 1930s the Shewman brothers Harry, Joe and George were building shiplap fishing boats, skiffs and trap boats usually 50 bird rigs for local hunters. Harry was first cousin to Lawrence Davis, a Toronto decoy maker. Harry was also a friend of Harve Davern a well known decoy carver. In spite of these and other influences Shewman developed and maintained his own style. Examples on Page. 115 "Ontario Decoys" by Bernie Gates.
