Ornate and rare Excelsior Stove Manufacturing Co. Quincy, IL. Fully restored at a cost of $2000. Six pieces includes: base, body, cast top, nickel rim lid, nickel finial, stove pipe. Base 24" x 24", 53"H Top of Finial.

The Excelsior Stove Co. was founded by John Christopher Fisher Jr., Samuel Wood and Joseph Easterly in 1865. The Fisher family originated in Hanover, Germany, and moved to Quincy about 1855. By 1880 the Excelsior Stove and Manufacturing Co. in Quincy produced beautiful nickel-plated coal-wood ranges that were not only functional for cooking a meal but also warmed the home. Dealers proudly used trade cards advertising both their business as well as their stock of stoves.

During the Civil War, Excelsior Manufacturing, like many other companies, shifted its focus to wartime production. Instead of manufacturing stoves, the company produced cannons and iron armor.
