1860's percussion rifle. Marked on side plate, "Thomas. Benton, Richmond IND" .50 cal or larger. This gun was used by Erwin Richard Anderson, also known as "Cougar Anderson." Erwin was a top notch guide in the Coeur d'Alene's during the last half of the 19th century. He told his grandson it "was the best shooting rifle he ever owned." He inherited the piece from his father, Alexander Anderson, who fought in the Civil War. All original, much used, well cared for. Mfg. 1860.
