Beautiful vintage 6-point Ball Star Badge marked "Deputy /Sheriff/Moffat Co. Colo." The county was founded in 1911. Building on the legacy of the transient gold seekers, cattle ranchers dominated the Moffat County region from the 1880s through the early 1900s. By 1910, however, their grazing lands were infringed on by homesteaders lured by the prospects of dry-land farming and by regulations that favored sheep ranchers. Excellent condition front and back. Nice saddle pin and catch but no hallmark, measures 2 5/8" T x 1 3/4" W. Ex. Hutcheson Collection.
