Oil on canvas; 20" x 24". The art of Ross Young has been described as painterly and forthright, a true expression of the places and sports he knows so well. The oil paintings he creates are intended to take you to places as diverse as the grouse woods of Maine, trout streams of the Rockies, west Texas quail country or the saltwater flats of the Laguna Madre. Ross paints what he has experienced first hand with the goal of making his paintings authentic artistic expressions of his subjects. Ross Young's subjects include the most distinguished sporting dogs in the world. He is the official artist for the National Pointing Dog Championship held on the historic Ames Plantation. He has been chosen by the Nestle Purina Company to annually paint all seven of their Outstanding Field Trail Dog Award Portraits. He is also the official artist for the N.S.T.R.A. Trail of Champions, the American Brittany Club's Dog of the Year, the American Field Quail and Pheasant Futurity, National Open Shooting Dog Championship and the Continental Championship. His work has been published as book covers and in or on the covers of "Gun Dog Magazine", "American Field", "Grouse Point Almanac", "Sporting Tales", "Pointing Dog Journal", "Sporting Classics", "Wildlife Art", "Field Trail Magazine", "Informart Magazine" and "U.S. Art Magazine".
He has published over 50 limited edition prints, two of which were published by Quail Unlimited and another was the 2002 Waterfowl U.S.A. print of the year. Over the years Ross Young has shown his work in national and international art shows, galleries and museums. In 2001 he was honored with a one-man show entitled "The Sporting Tradition" at the National Bird Dog Museum in Grand Junction, TN.
