Marked on side plate, "Thomas. Benton, Richmond ND" .50 cal or larger. This gun was used by Irving Roy Anderson, also known as Cougar Anderson, a top notch guide in the Coeur d'Alene's during the last half of the 19th century. He told his grandson it "was the best shooting rifle he ever owned." Anderson inherited the piece from his father, who fought in the Civil War. All original, much used, well cared for.
