This is a truncated Coast Salish iteration of the Tlingit Chief Shakes Raven Pole of Wrangell, Alaska, dating to the 1930s. On the top of the pole is Raven’s grandfather in his chiefly hat, below him is the box of daylight, then Raven’s mother, and at the base a human being with a dagger. This pole was carved by a Coast Salish artist from the Seattle area, perhaps Duwamish or Suquamish, and was possibly sold out of Ye Olde Curiosity Shop. The pole is mounted on a round cut of alder wood for a base. 15"
