Late 19th Century Chippewa porcupine hair roach. Wonderfully and professionally crafted from porcupine hair, which has the tips showing natural figure with the base being made from braided wool or knitted wool. These headdress war bonnet roaches would have been wron across the top of the warrior's head for battle or a special ceremony. This roach was featured in Cowan's Auction with numbers 979 and 142. The roach comes with unidentified auction or collector tags that read "I22C Chippewa Roach - Hairpiece - Swi-356." 17" x 11 1/2"
