Casas Grandes polychrome effigy figural jar of a nude male. Columbian, Mexico, Chihuahua region, Casas Grandes (Paquime) circa 1200 - 1450 CE. A wonderful jar in the form of a nude male seated with hands on his knees. The figure gazes forward exhibiting a huge head and protruding phallus, his body decorated with elaborate scrolling, linear, and anthropomorphic motifs in hues of black and red on a beige background.The verso opens to the mouth of the vessel, while a bulging back wall suggests this may represent a hunchback. Light surface wear as shown with possibl eareas of retouching to paint. Intact and excellent condition with great remaining pigments. 6" x 6"
