Dimensions

Antique double barrel flintlock 34” barrel, gauge unknown (believed to be a 20 gauge). The shotgun features walnut stocks with steel barrels and hardware. The trigger guard and butt plate are engraved with floral patterns and are made of brass. Both lock plates are engraved with the name “Blair.” David Blair was a gunmaker mainly in Birmingham and was active from at least 1782 until his death in 1814. The barrel is engraved with the word "LONDON" and is stamped with Tower private proofs flanking a "DB" maker's mark. The condition is good overall. The flintlock mechanisms are mechanically functioning. The stock has period nicks and dings and appears to have been sanded down and refinished at some point. There is also an area of professional restoration under the trigger guard, perhaps to fix an old break. There is minor chipping to the stock near the rear of the lock plate. The bore appears to be in great shape but has not been evaluated with a bore scope. The ramrod fits the firearm but may be a period replacement. The barrel has not been removed to inspect the condition of the stock. Manufactured circa 1800.

PERIOD: Early 19th Century
