This finely made birch bark basket tray was created by a Lower Tanana Athabascan artist in or near the community of Minto, Alaska, sometime in the 1960s. The birch bark is stitched and interlaced with willow roots around the rim and inside the bowl itself.
The shape is held together with a steamed and bent willow branch around the outside of the tray. The process for making this distinctive style of birch bark tray was documented by Dorothy and Matthew Titus for the Alaska Native Language Center in 1979 and published in the booklet “This Is the Way We Make Our Baskets.” 10" x 7 1/2" x 2 1/4"
