Dimensions

Antique smoothbore percussion gun. 25.5” half round, half octagon barrel. Gauge unknown. Walnut stocks with steel lock plate and hammer. Brass furniture. Trigger guard is carved from wood. The end cap is horn.

The condition is good overall. The firing mechanism appears to function mechanically (hammer holds in the cocked position and fires when trigger is pulled.) The barrel has a heavy brown patina. The bore has not been inspected for condition issues. The walnut stock has minor dings and nicks from use.

There is an old hole in the stock where a sling mount was once mounted. The stock features simple, yet elegant engraving. There are numerous matching brass inlays mounted on areas of the gun. Various screw heads show signs of period manipulation. The ramrod may be a replacement. There are no visible identifying stamps or marks. The date of manufacture is unknown but believed to be between 1850 and 1870. Possibly of French origin.
