1858 Presentation Beadwork on Red Stroud. Beaded by the Crow. Written on the piece, "This was wrought by the Wetunkiska Asiow Indian Mission residing Valley of the Rocky Mountains and presented to Mrs. Martha Vaughn of Mississippi, May 1st, 1858." This piece. Along with cradleboard (which can't be located) was consigned to a doll auction in Pennsylvania having come from a local estate. No history came with this, but we think it was made in a mission under the instruction of a priest who wrote out the cursive above. Mrs. Vaughn could have been a benefactor and supporter of the mission. The beads are so small that they have been sewn on with horsehair. Well framed; important.
