Ditidaht First Nation totem by Rick Williams the brother of John T. Williams partnered with other Native carvers to create at tribute to John in the form of a 34' tall red cedar totem pole that was carried by hand to the spot of the Seattle Center. This specific totem pole was carved by Rick Williams to serve as the working model for the 34 foot tall John T. Williams Memorial Totem Pole. The larger pole is not exactly the same, but it is clear that this was it's model and reference point during the creation of the memorial pole. After John T Williams was killed and his family was dealing with trauma and loss, they were in great need for financial support. Rick Williams had worked with and known this gentleman for years and approached him in seeking assistance for his family. He offered this totem pole for sale and my guy paid a large sum for this one of a kind piece in and effort to provide what assistance he could. His generosity ultimately helped the Williams family get by until a settlement was paid to them by the city of Seattle. We acquired directly from this "gentleman". On the back is carved "2' Yellow Cedar - Eagle Man- Wood Carver Mosquito-Man-Whale. Hand Carved by Rick Williams Nitinaht." 24" x 4" x 4"
