Dimensions

Medium size, deep, in-curved bowl with rounded sides and bottom; rim is slightly thickened and beveled. Construction is by coil and scrape and all surfaces are polished. The white paste is tempered with some sand and black fragments; crushed sherd may be present, but is difficult to discern in the white clay. A thick, red slip coats the interior and exterior. The interior decoration is painted in a thick, black vitreous paint and depicts a stylized bighorn sheep. The sheep body and head are composed of hatchured triangles and the horns a hatchured spiral. Framing lines average 3-4mm and hatchure lines 1-2mm. The black design is outlined in white kaolin, with stepped right triangles representing the feet and chin. The exterior decoration consists of a repeated, circling, non-interlocked F design, boardered on the top and bottom by thick black framing lines. This bowl represents classic Fourmile style. Broken and glued. No restoration. Found in East Central Arizona.
