Milton is from the small Yupik Eskimo village of about 700 people on St. Lawrence Island. He has been carving for many years and is known as a master carver. The early carvings were usually small carvings from walrus ivory, representing local animals and Eskimo's themselves, going about everyday life. Seals, caribou, polar bears, birds, and other animals important to Eskimo survival were often represented.
