19th Century Kwakiutl Gaxala Intruder Mask. A character who enters the dance house and disrupts the ceremonial activities. Usually depicts obnoxious, strange or foreign individuals. Tries to eject the "intruders," with mixed success, to the great amusement of the audience. Stylistically, the mask is Kwakwa'wakw (Kwakiutl) of red Cedar. Minor restoration to cheek and nose. Documentation included. 9 1/2"H x 7"W
