19th Century Southern Plains US Flag wrapped lance/spear. Shows a hand blacksmith forged spontoon lance/spear head of an early pattern showing a widening belly with median ridge running down the center of both sides of the double edge blade. The blade is secured to the wood haft handle which has been wrapped in a late 19th Century USA Flag and secured with strips of sinew. The top shows red stroud and flag strip fringes. 57.25"L and the visible head is 9"L x 1"W. Ex. Steven Johnson, Bruce Johnson Collection.
