.44RF Henry. 24" octagonal barrel. SN: 38854 (mfg. ca1870). Blued barrel, brass frame and furniture, color casehardened lever and hammer, smooth straight gripped walnut stock with crescent buttplate, smooth walnut forend. Lever action repeating tubular magazine rifle with loading gate. Barrel marked in two lines: WINCHESTER'S-REPEATING ARMS NEW HAVEN CT. / KING'S-IMPROVEMENT-PATENTED-MARCH 29 1866, OCTOBER 16, 1860. Serial number stamped on trigger plate tang, partially concealed by the lever. Original rear sight missing with an old replaced fixed sight in the original dovetail. Front sight is an apparent period of use dovetailed replacement. Lever screw is an apparent replacement as well. Factory sling swivels were installed in the toe of the stock and forend cap, but are now missing with only the mounting plate in place in the toe. Trapdoor in butt for cleaning rods, which are not present. A well used and somewhat salty example of the classic "Yellow Boy" made while the American West was still quite "wild" and several years before The Little Bighorn. Fair bore with good visible riflin. End of magazine tube slightly short with a brass collar repair that is certainly period. Mechanically functional.
