Market hunting shotgun. Double barrel, 8 gauge. Used in the market hunting days of the late 1800s. Duck hunters Martin Hendrickson and Ralph Walters found it in Lake Chatcolet, Idaho around 1940. Mr. Walters said he had heard about the loss of this gun when he was a child. The older family had a cabin at Lake Chatcolet and Ralph recalled hearing that the gun was lost in the 1890s. One barrel had been fired and heavily recoil centered over board. After a year of severe drought, the lake level was low and one end of the gun was up above the water and Mr. Hendrickson recovered. Heavy damascus barrel, copper repair on stock, original ramrod. 32" barrel, 50" overall with dog head hammers. Gun shows much use. Would imagine thousands of ducks during the period.
