Nuu-chah-Nulth totem pole, circa 1920-30. This older Nuu-chah-nulth model pole features a Bird with ear crests, an inverted Killer Whale, and a Mask, mounted on a chamfered base. The pole is carved in cedar and painted in blue, red, and black paints. The style of carving (especially the Killer Whale and the “ledge” on the brow of the Mask) and the almond-shaped eyes and painting (especially around the eyes of the Mask and the mustache) are diagnostic features of Nuu-chah-nulth model poles from the 1920s and 1930s. This pole has an old, period-correct white and red label on the back with some indistinct writing. 10"H
