Tall Apache olla designed with a checkered neck and shoulders above geometric bands of zigzags, triangles, crosses and checkerboard motif. Exceptional condition for age. After an olla was filled to the brim with wild grass seeds such as chia or amaranth, or domestic plant products like corn or beans, a basketry lid or cover was put on top to protect the food inside. Some experts believe the use of human or animal figures on baskets began around 1875. Ex Bonhams. 18 1/2"H x 14"D
