Traditional bundle and storage basket from the Shoshone people of Idaho in the Fort Hall Reservation. A quick loose weave style. Due to differences in environment the Shoshone used willow as a material rather than bear grass as it was more prevalent, such as used by the Nez Perce. Most were left their natural color and not dyed. The Shoshone used their basketry as utilitarian objects rather than selling or using for barter. This one once had a handle now missing.

PERIOD: Early 20th Century

ORIGIN: Great Basin - Shoshone, Native American
