Monumental pilot house carved wood eagle. Standing on a rocky outcut cropping with spread wings. Full tail feathers, gaze cast downward. Carved feathering detail throughout. Accentuated talons touching rock. Weathered appearance. Eagles were the common carving found on the tops of steamboat pilot houses. Carver unknown. This one most probably used on the Mississippi. Much larger than most. Condition: lower beak broken, applied sheet metal supports and iron bar supports on top of wings. Old iron wooden nails drilled from base to top of back for pole. 26" x 64" x 27"
