The barrel has the roll-stamped standard Winchester two-line address with the Kings’ Patent call-out. The blade front sight is paired with an elevator-adjustable rear semi-buckhorn sight. The dust cover rides on an integral-to-the-frame rail. The barrel and magazine tube were blued while the receiver, forearm cap, side-plates, hammer, loading lever and butt-plate were all color-case hardened. The serial number is roll-stamped on the lower tang with the model stamped on the upper tang. The crescent-shaped butt-plate has the sliding trap door for the cleaning rod. Cleaning rod is not present. The wood stocks are made of straight-grained Walnut. Caliber/ Gauge: .44 WCF (.44-40); Serial Number: 197728B Working Order.
The condition of this antique Winchester rates at 80% as refinished. All metal parts have been buffed and re-blued resulting in a very nice overall appearance. There are some scattered areas on the barrel, dust cover and receiver that show bare metal. The receiver, forearm cap, loading lever, hammer and crescent butt-plate still show remnants of color-case hardening in protected areas. The 60% rifle bore is semi-shiny with good rifling. All screw heads are in excellent condition. The straight-grained Walnut stocks are solid and show normal dings, indentations and scratches and have received a new coat of varnish sometime in this rifles’ past. There does not appear to be any visibly replaced parts. The action is solid and strong and functions correctly.
