Winchester model 1873 saddle ring carbine, third variation. .38 WCF cal. MFG 1893, SN #465885B. Lever action saddle ring carbine, 20" round barrel, full mag. This carbine has seen some action as a frontier gun riding stage coach, saddle on a cattle ranch or years with a trapper. It has earned every one of its dings, scrapes and contusions. The original stock is weathered, yet solid with a good metal to wood fit. It has a tight hairline crack on the comb from the upper tang. The forearm is better overall having been protected in a scabbard while riding saddle. Both stock and forend have a wonderful aged patina. The metal displays an even brown/grey patina fading to silver at the carry points, yet some blue remains on the receiver in protected areas. Strong roll stamps and caliber markings. Bore is very good, with light black powder scarring. Factory carbine front and ladder rear sight. Functions well and remains mechanically tight. Original carbine with butt plate with sliding trapdoor. Carbines are rare in 38 WRF.
